Not every departure is freedom from custody. Tri-County can transfer a person to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, another county jail, the U.S. Marshals, BOP, or ICE. When the manner names a receiving custodian, the event should be described as a transfer until that agency’s record says otherwise.

The page states a nominal 30-minute update rate and displays an update timestamp. A match supports current listed custody at that time. No match is only a negative result because the portal has no released-person filter or history.
- Search the current roster and record its timestamp. Compare the full name and any available booking details.
- Call Tri-County at 937-834-5000 with the name, date of birth, or booking number and ask whether staff can confirm the discharge manner.
- Check the committing court for bond, dismissal, sentencing, release, conveyance, or warrant entries near the custody change.
- Search ODRC when state reception is plausible, or use the proper federal locator when a federal handoff may have occurred.
- Request the jail-register entry and any existing release or transfer sheet if the route remains uncertain.

Tri-County Jail Release Records
R.C. 341.02 requires a jail register containing each prisoner’s name, commitment date and cause, plus discharge date and manner. Those last two fields are the strongest statutory evidence of what happened at Tri-County Regional Jail. “Manner” can separate bond or sentence completion from transfer, escape, death, or delivery to another custodian.

Those details must be requested and verified because only the statutory core is guaranteed. The court docket answers who authorized action, while the jail record establishes when Tri-County processing ended.
Ask for the entry tied to one confinement. Include the full name, date of birth or booking number, and the approximate commitment date. If the manner of discharge is unclear, request any existing transfer sheet or authorizing order as a separate item. For an existing release record, ask Tri-County as jail operator. The Union County Sheriff is also a county records and transport agency and may route a request when another custodian maintains the booking file. A referral does not prove that no record exists. Follow the route and keep the same identifiers and confinement dates in each contact.

The facility source and current roster serve different roles: one supplies official routing, while the other supplies a time-bounded custody check.
Tri-County Jail Roster Limits
No official Tri-County 24-hour or 72-hour release feed was found. The current portal has no “released today” switch, booking-history archive, release timestamp field on its landing interface, or stated post-release retention period. Its frequent update statement does not convert it into a recent-release list. Saved current-roster screens also cannot show every departure between snapshots.
The live individual record may include booking details and, depending on the record, a photograph. The public interface does not support a fixed post-release photo promise. Once the booking leaves the current roster, request the booking photograph tied to a booking number or date if that existing record is needed. Do not infer unverified release fields from nonofficial directories.

Tri-County Jail Release Property
The Tri-County inmate handbook adds a practical release record. It says property is collected and secured at admission, and the resident signs a property inventory when released. That acknowledgment can help identify the booking and completion of release processing. It does not replace the jail register’s date and manner of discharge.
If a person transfers to a facility that will not accept the stored property, the handbook says the resident designates someone to retrieve it. Once contacted, that property is held for up to seven days before possible destruction or donation. The rule makes transfer status especially important. A family property pickup can occur even though the person remained in custody elsewhere.
Call before arranging retrieval. No verified public pickup schedule or location was captured in the research, and the handbook controls only the stated property process. Ask whether an existing inventory or receipt can be provided when a precise record of returned or designated property is needed.
Note: Property release can support the timeline, but it does not prove community release when another custodian received the person.
Tri-County Jail Release Geography
The regional geography is a defining Union County detail. Tri-County Regional Jail sits in Mechanicsburg, outside Union County, and serves Champaign, Madison, and Union Counties through a regional corrections commission. A person arrested or sentenced in Union County may therefore be held in another county. Searching only facilities physically located in Union County misses the primary adult county-jail custodian.
The reverse can also cause confusion. Union County physically contains Ohio Reformatory for Women, West Central Community Correctional Facility, and Central Ohio Youth Center. ORW is a statewide ODRC prison, West Central is a secure community-based correctional facility, and Central Ohio Youth Center is juvenile detention. None is the Tri-County adult jail roster. “Located in Union County,” “serves Union County,” and “committed by a Union County court” are different filters.
Follow the institution that actually held the person. A Tri-County discharge belongs in the regional jail record. An ODRC release belongs in state status and release detail. A West Central program completion belongs with that facility and the sentencing court. Juvenile identities and discharge details must not be merged into adult release searching.
After a Tri-County Jail Release
A community release does not state what happened to the criminal case. Search the Union County Clerk portal for Common Pleas felony matters and Marysville Municipal Court for misdemeanor, traffic, or preliminary felony proceedings. Useful entries include bond, dismissal, sentence, jail-time credit, community control, conveyance, violation, or termination. A journal entry is stronger than a short docket label.
